Profile of Prof. K. S. Ramachandran, CEO  
         
 
        He is a BE (Mech) from NIT Warangal 1967 batch and M. Tech (Fluid Power Eng’g) from
IIT Bombay 1971 batch. He was General Manager in many MNC’s in India (Wipro Fluid
Power etc) and abroad (Comcraft London, Rafiki UK and Gencor USA with operations in
West, East and Southern Africa). He has worked in 4 countries and widely traveled around
the world to about 25 countries.
 
        After retirement from abroad, he joined educational institutions in India to understand the
educational scene in India. He was Professor (Industry- Institute Interaction) at VIT Vellore and
Professor (External  Interaction) at Karunya University, Coimbatore. He interacted extensively
with recruiters in India and came to know what is lacking in present day students. He organized
coaching lessons/ classes at Karunya to prepare the students for campus recruitment. He also
   
  conducted ‘train-the-trainer’ classes for other teaching faculty faculty to handle the large volume    
    of students. He himself was trained at Infosys campus at Mysore for ‘Soft Skills’.

Projects initiated at Madras:

 
  *

In 1985: Computer based alerts on Tenders for subscribers. This was the first such set up in India with customers all over India; it was to be enlarged to other areas such as real estate, matrimony etc., but due to the departure of the CEO to work abroad, the venture was closed prematurely. (This was far before many of the currently popular websites were even started).

   
  *

In 1986: Training courses on computers via software developed in-house using Sinclair computer, tape recorder and TV! At that time, hands on knowledge of what a Desk Top is and what all it can do was not fully understood widely. Again, due to the departure of the CEO to work abroad, the classes were closed.

   
  *

In 1992: First NetCafe in Madras to send and receive emails. Customers from towns as far as 120 km away (Vellore, Pondicherry, Cuddalore, Tiruvannamalai etc) were availing of our services.

   
         
 

Research Projects initiated in VIT University, Vellore (1999-200):

   
  * Solar Energy Dish for Power Generation, based on a German design, first time in India    
  * Rural development: generating Bio Mass Power: a new process to capture volatiles from    
    Agric waste and then using the gas in modified Gensets    
  * Small and Medium Industries development in Private Sector using help                                  
    from an UN Agency which can arrange Technology Transfer    
  * Content development in India via Internet for International Publishers    
         
 

Projects initiated in Nigeria (1986-92):

   
  * Setting up of a cold rolling mill with funding by UNDP    
  * Design and development of small fittings and builders' hardware    
         
 

Projects initiated in Uganda (1995-96):

   
  * Modernisation of a cooking oil refinery by physical refining techniques    
  * Modernisation of cotton ginneries originally owned by Govt. and privatised through World Bank    
         
 

Workshops and Seminars organised by me as Anchor Person:

   
  * Design of roofing for suiting the rain conditions prevalent in different regions of Nigeria: 20 seminars in different towns (1990-92)    
  * One of the three panel members at the National Seminar for Industrial Development in Nigeria (1987)    
  * Conducted 38 workshops in India (1979-83) on hydraulic design of several types of machinery using latest hydraulic controls and devices from Danfoss Denmark. These design ideas are actually being used in many machines made in India now
